England captain David Beckham is sure that he will reach an agreement to continue at Real Madrid beyond the end of his current contract.

"We'll start to talk about it before the summer. There is a 99 percent chance I will sign an extension here," the 30-year-old midfielder was reported as saying by sports daily Marca on Tuesday.

"I am in no doubt that I want to stay. What we have agreed is that we are in the middle of the season with very important club commitments that come first.

"They know I want to continue and I know they want me to stay."

Beckham has been in fine form recently and was one of Real's best performers in the 4-0 demolition of Espanyol in the Primera Liga at the weekend.

He signed a four-year contract with Real in 2003 after leaving Manchester United for a fee of up to 35 million euros (24 million pounds).

Beckham, who has yet to win a major trophy with Real, added: "I am moving into my new house at the moment and the club know that. I wouldn't have bought a new house in Madrid if I was going to leave.

"I am at one of the greatest clubs in the world. Why would I want to leave anyway?"

Real are third in the league, 10 points behind leaders Barcelona, and play their King's Cup semi-final first leg away to Real Zaragoza on Wednesday.

They play Arsenal in the Champions League last 16 on February 21.
