Shiv Kapur registered his first top-10 finish of the season with a superb five-under 67 in the final round of the USD 300,000 Taiwan Open at the Chang Gung Golf Club in Taipei, on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Delhi golfer totalled 10-under 278 and tied for seventh place with three other golfers.

Among other Indians in the fray, Arjun Singh shot a final round of three-under 69 to finish tied 28th, while Gaurav Ghei was two-under for the final round and ended tied 49th.

Thai stalwart Thaworn Wiratchant stormed from three shots down to win his second title of the season. The 38-year-old Thaworn fired a superb eight-under-par 64 in the final round to lift the title by one stroke from compatriot Chapchai Nirat, who closed with a 67.

Kapur, happy with his game and finish, said, "I am feeling confident about my game and I knew it was only a matter of time before it came together."

Yet, Kapur felt he could have done better.

"Despite shooting five-under I missed a few opportunities early in my round but made four birdies in row from the eighth to get my round going. I am looking forward to a good week next week and hopefully contend to win."

Kapur made six birdies and a single bogey on the 16th.

Thaworn's victory was his sixth on the Asian Tour and the winner's cheque of USD 47,250 propelled him again to the top of the Order of Merit, a week after he was overhauled by compatriot Thongchai Jaidee, who did not play in Taipei this week.

"I'm really happy. Everything worked in my favour in the final round," said Thaworn, whose sensational finish tied the course record and helped him post a four-day total of 18-under-par 270.

Thaworn has now won USD 391,563 this season, which is a new Asian Tour record for earnings in a single season.

The Taiwan Open is the 18th leg of this season's Asian Tour, which is offering over USD 20 million in total prize money. The Tour remains in Taipei for next week's Mercuries Taiwan Masters where Thaworn is the defending champion.
