Paes moves up two places

Yet another final finish within a week's span has helped Leander Paes move two rungs up and the player now stands 11th in the individual category of ATP Doubles Entry Rankings released on Monday.

October has been quite an eventful month for this former world No. 1 from India. He started the month in style winning Bangkok Open with Aussie Paul Hanley and reached consecutive finals at Stockholm and Madrid with Serbian Nenad Zimonjic.

On Sunday, Leander lost in the Madrid Masters doubles final, but it fetched him some useful points and he now sits pretty with 2665 points. His Serb partner also gained a place and is one ahead -- 10th -- of the Indian in the rankings, according to information received in New Delhi.

As a pair, the duo are fifth in the leader board topped by Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan of the US.

Meanwhile, despite a round two defeat in Madrid, another former No. 1 from India Mahesh Bhupathi remains static at 15 place.

Mahesh, partnering Czech Martin Damm, lost to Leander-Nenad in Madrid after defeating top seed Bryan brothers in the first round.

In pairings, the Indo-Czech combination languishes at a lowly 18th.

Elsewhere, the downward spiral continued for the Indian players in the ATP singles rankings with Harsh Mankad, Prakash Amritraj and Rohan Bopanna all slipping several rungs down the ladder.

Harsh, the highest ranked Indian has come down three places to 230 while Prakash and Rohan both moved down one position and are at 273 and 302 respectively.
