International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge endorsed Kenya's proposed bid for the 2016 Summer Games as he wound up his five-day tour of the country on Saturday.

"Kenya has good weather and good facilities which they used to host the All African Games in 1987 and the administrative ability to host the Games," Rogge told Reuters in the north Rift Valley provincial town of Eldoret after a visit to IOC member and National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) chairman Kipchoge Keino's home.

"If they place a bid for the Games, yes the IOC will support them."

The Minister for Sport Ochillo Ayacko caused a stir on Wednesday when he announced that Kenya would bid to host the 2016 Olympics.

Rogge initially said he was surprised by the announcement.

The IOC president has been in the east African country since Monday during which he attended Kenya's 50th anniversary since joining the Olympic movement and presided over the official opening of NOCK headquarters.
