Moya retains Chennai Open title

World number five Moya, who led Spain to the title last month, said his commitment to the event over the past two years had been tough physically and mentally.

"I've made this difficult decision in order to focus on the regular tournaments of the professional circuit... the grand slam tournaments and a return to the Masters Cup are my priorities for this season," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

"At 28, I still have very high objectives in my professional career and this season I need to focus on specific competitions and dates."

After the heartache of missing out on Spain's first Davis Cup victory in 2000, Moya tamed world number two Andy Roddick in an overheated final in Seville last month to hand Spain their second title.

The popular Mallorcan had also played in the 2003 Davis Cup final in which Spain lost to Australia.

"To take part in such a fascinating competition and be lucky enough to win the trophy has been the best professional experience of my career," Moya said.
