Mohun Bagan's football coach Amal Dutta resigned on Tuesday, protesting the executive committee's decision to appoint a goalkeeping coach and a physical instructor.

Dutta had sent a letter to Bagan general secretary Anjan Mitra saying he is not accepting the twin decisions of the executive committee.

"Since the coach has expressed 'no-confidence' in the decision of the management, we are treating this missive as his resignation," Mitra said.

Bagan had earlier slapped a show cause notice on the coach accusing him of repeatedly giving statements to the media which were creating confusion in the club.

Dutta was unavailable for comment, while Mitra announced that a new coach would be appointed later in the day.

Dutta took over the reins of the club from Aloke Mukherjee in the later stages of the last edition of the National Football League, when Bagan were tottering on the verge of relegation.

Under his guidance, the club managed to stave off demotion before winning the local league this year.

However, since then Bagan had fallen on bad times, slipping at the first hurdle in the Federation Cup and then bowing out from the IFA Shield at the group stage.

The rumblings against Dutta were getting louder by the day after the club's recent dismal showing and football circles were agog with speculation that the veteran coach's removal was only a matter of time.
