David Beckham says that he is delighted that England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has ruled himself out of the running as a possible future coach of Real Madrid.

"It's very good news for England because he has shown his commitment to the country and that's what people want," the England captain and Real Madrid midfielder told reporters on Wednesday.

"It's what the players want and I'm sure it's what 90 percent of the supporters want as well."

Eriksson has denied reports that he had received an approach from Real to take over the club following the resignation of Jose Antonio Camacho on Monday.

"I haven't spoken to anyone from that club," he told reporters in Stockholm on Tuesday. "I have a contract and that's it. I haven't had any approach from anyone ... It is not an issue to decide."

Real have appointed Camacho's former assistant Mariano Garcia Remon to take charge of the team.

Beckham said the news that fellow England midfielder Steven Gerrard would be out for two months after breaking a bone in his foot was a serious setback to the national side.

"It's a massive blow because Steven Gerrard is an important player for England and of course it's a big blow for Liverpool too," said Beckham.

"Unfortunately for him he seems to be one of those players that when he does get an injury then it's a pretty bad one.

"But he's strong enough to come back. He's shown that from the injuries he's had in the past and he'll do the same with this."

Gerrard will miss next month's World Cup Group 6 qualifiers against Wales and Azerbaijan.
