East Bengal footballer Sasthi Duley and teammate Dipankar Roy, who were arrested for conspiring in providing shelter to alleged most-wanted anti-social 'Hathkata' Dilip, filed bail applications before the Calcutta high court on Monday.

Joymalya Bagchi , advocate for the two footballers, said the bail applications were filed before the high court during the day and claimed the charges against them were are bailable.

The lower court had sent the players to judicial custody despite the prosecution not opposing their bail plea.

The matter is likely to come up for hearing on Tuesday.

On Sunday, sub-divisional judicial magistrate at Barrackpore, Gopal Karmakar remanded the two well-known footballers, who were arrested on November 2, to judicial custody.

The two had, on November 2, been remanded to police custody for five days.

The petitioners claimed that as they are sportspersons of repute and will not abscond and also cooperated with the investigating officers, they should be granted bail.

''Hathkata' Dilip – he is so-called because one of his arms ends in a stump at the wrist -- was arrested from Duley's house at Haripal village in Hooghly district. Dipankar reportedly had persuaded Sasthi to give shelter to the anti-social who is wanted in 15 murder cases, several abductions and other criminal cases.

The two footballers had gone to Delhi to join their team, which is participating in the Durand Cup, but returned to Kolkata for police interrogation on November 1.
