Promising talent Gurkirat Singh made it to the final of men's javelin in the IAAF World Junior Championships in Grosseto, Italy, on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old Indian recorded a distance of 66.84 metres in his second attempt to progress to the final from Group B.

Gurkirat's first attempt measured 63.16 metres while he fouled his third and last chances. The final will be held on Friday.

Meanwhile, Indian hopes were dashed in the men's long jump when K J Clinton narrowly missed a berth in the final.

Clinton, 18, opened with a good leap of 7.33 metres but soon hit the trough recording just 5.93 metres in his second jump. Though he tried to improve in his last try he had to be content with a distance of 7.19 metres.

He finished eighth in Group A, where an athlete from Greece bagged the sixth and last berth with an effort of 7.34 metres, just a centimetre better than the Indian's effort.

Clinton has a personal best of 7.63m.

India also entered M Ranjith in men's triple jump and in the men's 4x100m relay.
