World record holder Tim Montgomery and arch-rival Maurice Greene are expected to clash for the first time this year at the Golden League meeting in Paris on July 4, Montgomery's agent said on Thursday.

"Maurice Greene has already said he is running in Paris, and if I get my deal, Tim will run there too," Charles Wells told Reuters.

Maurice Greene (1167) of the U.S. seen crossing the finish line in pain next to compatriot Tim Montgomery (1188) to win the men's 100 meter final at the World Championships in Athletics, in Edmonton in this August 2001Montgomery wiped out Greene's world record with a stunning run of 9.78 seconds in the IAAF Grand Prix final in Paris last September. That was 1/100th of a second faster than the 1999 record by Greene, who watched his fellow American from the stands.

Greene challenged Montgomery on Wednesday to race him before the world championships in Paris in August, and the Olympic and triple world champion seemed unfazed that a meeting was finally in the works.

"If he's there, the outcome will be the same as last year at the Golden League meet in Paris," said Greene referring to a race he won with Montgomery fourth.

Wells said Montgomery's next race after the U.S. championships would be in Glasgow on June 29.

"I'm also hoping he will run in Paris and am still negotiating with Rome," Wells said, noting that Montgomery's schedule would depend on the birth of his child.

His partner, triple Olympic champion Marion Jones, is expected to give birth on July 21.

Greene has races planned for Lausanne, Paris and Rome, he said on Wednesday.
