Humpy emerges joint winner at Elekes GM chess tournament

Grandmaster Koneru Humpy of India rounded off the Elekes Memorial GM Chess Tournament played at Budapest, Hungary, emerging as joint leader at the end of the final (11th) round.

Playing with white, Humpy agreed for a draw against International Master Almasi Istavan of Hungary after 14 moves, to share the top spot with IM Postny Evegny of Israel with eight points, according to information received in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Humpy on Monday became the youngest woman in the world to get the men's GM norm when she drew with Peter Lukacs of Hungary, surpassing the previous record of chess prodigy Judith Polgar by three months.

Following are the final standings:
1. GM Koneru Humpy (Ind), IM Postny Evegny (Isr) 8 points;
3. GM Akna Email (Hun) 6.5;
4. GM Peter Lukacs (Hun) 6;
5. IM Fogarasi Tibor (Hun) 6;
6. IM Christian Weiss (Aut) 6;
7. IM Sergey Erenburg (Isr) 5.5;
8. IM Istnan Almasi (Hun) 5.5;
9. GM Csaba Horvath (Hun) 5;
10. Wim Moser Eva (Aut) 4.5.
