for Jr. Davis Cup

India lost to China in the quarter-finals of the Asia-Oceania qualifiers for the Junior Davis Cup tennis tournament, at the National Tennis Centre, in Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur, on Friday and failed to qualify for the finals, to be held in France in September.

Seeded third in the tournament, India lost to unseeded China 1-2. It was their first defeat in the tournament.

India No 2 Tushar Liberhan started well, defeating Xu Yin 6-4, 6-1, but Karan Rastogi, the India No 1, lost to Jian Li 7-5, 3-6, 5-7 to blow the lead.

Tied at one-all after the singles, Rastogi and Liberhan, who had done extremely well earlier, lost the crucial doubles tie against Li and Tan 4-6, 0-6.

In the other quarter-final matches, Australia defeated Uzbekistan 3-0, Korea blanked Indonesia 3-0 and Japan defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 to qualify for the finals.
