Humpy shares the lead

Woman Grandmaster Koneru humpy shares the lead with two International Masters after the fifth round, with 3.5 points, in the Elekes Memorial Grandmasters chess tournament

The young Indian, who has an Elo rating of 2486, won her fifth round, against Rajlich Vasik of USA, without much difficulty in kings Indian Defence with white pieces.

Till blacks 14th move the game went on normal book line. On the 15th move, black took Humpy's knight on d4 square with black square bishop and sacrificed his knight on E3 Square to develop attack on Humpys King through E5. But Humpy played her 21st move Rf1 accurately to defend her position and repulsed the attack and won the game in 37 moves.

Earlier, Humpy registered her first win in the fourth round with black pieces against WIM Moser Eva of Austria, another girl player in the tournament.

The Elekes memorial tournament is a 11-round Grandmaster tournament with an average rating of 2437.

Standings after fifth round:
1: Koneru Humpy (IND), Postny Evegny (ISR) and Weiss Christian (AUT) - 3.5 points
4: Lukacs Peter (HUN), Erenburg Sergey (ISR) and Fogarasi Tibor (HUN) - 3.0 points
7: Horvath Csaba (HUN) - 2.5 points
8: Anka Emil (HUN), Almasi Istvan (HUN), Danner Gearg (AUT) - 2.0 points
11: Moser Eva (AUT) - 1.5 points
12 Rajlich Vasik (USA) - 0.5 points
