Anjali Bhagwat qualifies for Athens Olympics

Ace Rifle shooter Anjali M Bhagwat qualified for the Athens Olympics in 2004 when she won the silver medal at the ISSF World Cup currently going on in Atlanta, USA.

Anjaili shot 102.6 in the final after scoring 399/400 in the qualification round. Russian Galaina who shot 103.3 in the final adding to her 399 in the qualifying round won the gold. The third place went to German Prekal who shot 396+103.3.

Anjali's performance won her a "quota place" for Athens as the Russian had already qualified.

As per ISSF rules, a person having a "quota" is not entitled to get it again and the next person is given the place, the National Rifle Association of India said in a press release in New Delhi in Monday.

Anjali had won a silver in the ISSF World Cup in Sydney last month. Abhinav Bindra, another medal hope for India, will be in action on Thursday.
