Branislav Sekac wins ITF Futures title

Slovakian Branislav Sekac won his second ITF Men's Futures Singles title defeating David Sherwood of England in the final of the $10,000 Rexona-Deo ITF men's tennis championships at the Nungambakkam stadium, in Chennai, on Saturday.

Sekac, who had last won an ITF title in 2000, won 7-6 (7/3), 6-4 in a hour and 40 minutes minutes to earn valuable ATP points and the $900 first prize.

Sherwood's game was littered with unforced errors. However, he rarely failed with his backhand play and came up with some excellent returns.

Sekac showcased his solid temperament and never yielded under pressure. He used his serves to lethal effect to win the big points and rarely looked in any trouble.

Sherwood held the upperhand in the beginning of the first set as he broke Sekac in the second game. But the Slovakian broke back in the fifth game to draw level.

From that point on, the games went with serve and the set went into the tie-break where the Englishman erred. Sekac played confidently to win the tie-break 7-3.

In the second set too, Sherwood was resilient but committed a lot of unforced errors to surrender the initiative and the win to Sekac
