Sports scribe Ron Hendricks passes away

Veteran sports journalist Ron Hendricks died in Bangalore on Thursday following cardiac arrest and renal failure, his family sources said on Friday.

He was 81. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.

Hendricks, who was ailing for some time, breathed his last at a private hospital and his mortal remains were buried later in the day.

A versatile sports reporter and editor, he was probably the only Indian eyewitness to the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre of Israeli athletes by Palestinian guerillas.

Besides mastery over the coverage of athletics and hockey, he was also adept at reporting on any other sports event.

After retiring as sports editor of the Indian Express, Bombay, he freelanced for a while before shifting residence to Bangalore.
