Schumacher celebrates with
win at home GP

Michael Schumacher celebrated his fifth Formula One world championship by ending a barren seven-year stretch at Hockenheim on Sunday with a comfortable victory at his home German Grand Prix.

The win was Schumacher's 62nd Grand Prix victory and his 43rd for Ferrari, equalling the record nine wins in a season he had already shared with Nigel Mansell.

Schumacher's first victory for Ferrari in Germany was never in doubt as the world champion, who sealed his record-equalling fifth title in France last weekend, led from pole position to the chequered flag, beating Juan Pablo Montoya into second place.

Montoya's Williams team mate Ralf Schumacher, the winner here last year, was third after losing second place to the Colombian following a late, unplanned pit stop.

Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello, who was fourth, had another stroke of bad luck with a refuelling problem on his second pitstop, allowing Montoya through to third.
