Rana and Jung win silver

Ace pistol shooter Jaspal Rana and partner Samresh Jung gave India its second medal at the Commonwealth Games when they won the silver in the men's 10 metre air pistol event, on a day which saw Australia dominate the shooting ranges by winning two of the four gold medals at stake.

After the gold medal success of Sameer Ambekar and Abhinav Bindra, in the men's 10 metre rifle pairs event, Rana and Jung finished behind the English pair of Nicholas Baxter and Michael Gault, who won the gold with 1140 points.

Rana and Jung tallied 1137 points.

Namibia's Andre Malherbe and Friedhelm Sack picked the bronze.

Gault and Baxter won England their first shooting gold of the Games as they retained their 10 metre air pistol pairs title.

It was the 48-year-old Gault's sixth Commonwealth gold medal, having won one at Victoria in 1994 and four in Kuala Lumpur four years ago, and Baxter's third.

Their success followed the earlier silver medal-winning performance of English clay pigeon-shooters Ian Peel and Chris Dean in the men's trap pairs.

Peel and Dean finished level on 187 points with Australia in the event but lost out on the gold on countback of their last round scores.

Welsh pair James Birkett-Evans and Michael Wixey were just a point further back in third as they won their country's first medal of the Games.

Australia claimed the title after shooting a final round 48 compared to England's 46.
