Tarapore and Kapilla win World Yachting Championship

India's Farokh Tarapore and Vikas Kapilla have won the World Championship in the international 420 class yachting championship held at Tavira, Portugal.

Tarapore and Kapilla are the second Indian team after Homi Motival and Puspendra Garg to win a World yachting Championship abroad. Motival and Garg won the World Championship enterprise class yacht in 1993, in Zimbabwe.

Tarapore, India's most experienced sailor, has also won the enterprise class in the Mumbai World Championship in 1991. He has also won a gold, silver and two bronze medals in the Asian Games.

This year's 420 Championship had 84 participants from over 20 countries. Sailors from six Asian countries were also in the fray. With this win Tarapore has announced himself as one of the strong contenders for winning the 420 gold medal at the Busan Asian Games in September.
