Sai Jayalakshmi wins Satellite tournament

Sai Jayalakshmi of India won the singles title at the $10,000 women's tennis Satellite tournament in Tlemcen, Algeria, last week.

Seeded third in the event, she defeated fifth seeded Elisabeth Bahn of Austria 7-5, 0-6, 6-4 in the final.

Another Indian in the draw, Rushmi Chakravarty was the top seed. However, she went down to fifth seeded Elisabeth Bahn of Austria 3-6, 3-6 in the quarter-finals.

Earlier, Sai got a walkover in her semi-final match against seventh seed Lisa Tognetti of Italy. She beat eighth seed Jenny Zika of Austria 6-4, 6-1 in the quarter-finals.

But in the doubles, Sai and Rushmi, the top seeds, lost to the fourth seeded Austrian pair of 6-7(4), 6-4 , 6-7(4) in the final.

Sai gets five points for the title. She will raise her ranking up by about 60 spots.
