Atwal makes cut; Jeev falters

Jeev Milkha Singh double-bogeyed the final hole of his second round to miss the cut by a solitary stroke while countryman Arjun Atwal just managed to sneak into the weekend rounds at The Barclays Scottish Open, being played at Loch Lomond, Scotland.

The cut was applied at one-over 143 with 75 players progressing into the money-making rounds.

The tournament holds a lot of importance to the participants as a top-30 finish here stands to earn them a direct entry into the British Open, commencing next week.

However, Jeev's missing the cut gives him the opportunity to participate in the final qualifying stages for the Open, to be held on July 14 and 15.

Fredrik Jacobson of Sweden led the tournament with a half-way tally of 11-under 131.

cotland's Sandy Lyle was second, four strokes behind at seven-under 135, while first round leader Justin Rose was tied third with Richard S Johnson and Carl Pettersson (both Sweden) and Miles Tunnicliff (England) at six-under 136.

Earlier, Atwal began his round in style with a birdie and went on to essay three more on the 4th, 14th and 15th. Bogeys on the 6th and 16th handed him a second round score of two-under 69 and a mid-way tally of one-over 143.

Jeev on the contrary had a nightmarish start to his round with bogeys on his first two holes. He recovered thereafter with birdies on the 9th, 12th and 13th and looked good to make the cut despite bogeys on the 10th and 16th. However, the double bogey on his closing hole, put paid to his aspirations.
