Bhupathi-Mirnyi in Wimbledon quarters

Indian tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi of Belarus moved into the quarterfinals of the men's doubles competition at Wimbledon on Monday.

Seeded third in the tournament, they beat Julien Boutter of France and Sjeng Schalken of the Netherlands 6-1, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 in the third round.

It was another easy outing for the pair. They broke thrice to take the first set easily.

In the second set, the games went without any breaks and the two big servers won the tiebreaker 7-6(7-3).

Bhupathi/Mirnyi converted one of the three break chances they got to win the third set and the match.

They play the fifth-seeded pair, Todd Woodbridge of Australia and Sweden's Jonas Bjorkman on Tuesday.

In the other third round matches, defending champions Jared Palmer and Donald Johnson of the United States defeated South Africa's Neville Godwin and Belarus' Vladimir Voltchkov 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, 6-3 in their quest to win back-to-back Wimbledon titles.

But eighth-seeded David Prinosil of Germany and David Rikl ousted the 1998 champions Yevgeny Kafelnikov of Russia and Paul Haarhuis of the Netherlands 6-3, 7-5, 7-5.

Bhupathi will be back on the court after the doubles match to play his third round mixed doubles match. Bhupathi and Elena Likhovtseva of Russia will face Thomas Shimada and Rika Fujiwara of Japan.

Leander Paes and Lisa Raymond play their second round against Paul Haarhuis and Miriam Oremans of the Netherlands later in the day.
