Nalbandian breaks Arthurs
to reach quarters

David Nalbandian became only the second Argentine to reach the quarter-finals of the men's draw at Wimbledon when he beat Wayne Arthurs 6-4, 7-6, 2-6, 7-6.

Nalbandian -- playing in his first Wimbledon -- outlasted the big-serving Australian to emulate Guillermo Villas, a losing quarter-finalist in 1975 and 1976.

The 20-year-old from Cordoba became the first person to break Arthurs's serve in the tournament before he won the opening set and took a tight second on the tiebreak.

Locally-based Arthurs, who was trying to better his 1999 performance when he lost to Andre Agassi in the fourth round, broke twice to win the third set.

The fourth set went with serve, but Nalbandian held to take a topsy-turvy tiebreak 9-7 on his second match point, having at one point trailed 5-2.
