World record holder Greene suffers leg injury

World record holder and Olympic champion Maurice Greene has suffered a leg injury, but still hopes to compete in next month's U.S. indoor championships, his agent said on Thursday.

"He does have an injury. It is not a severe injury and he is considering competing at the indoor nationals," Emanuel Hudson told Reuters by telephone from Irvine, California.

"He's got a problem with his leg, but I couldn't tell you exactly what it is," Hudson said. "He pulled something."

Hudson said he would not discuss how the injury occurred.

"He's up and around. He's going to the Super Bowl. He's going to the Olympic Games. Maurice is fine," Hudson said.

Greene was bothered by tendinitis in his left knee last season, then pulled his hamstring and thigh when running 9.82 seconds, the third-fastest time ever, to defend his world 100-metres title at Edmonton in August.

He has not competed since then.
