Young jockey dies after
fall from horse

The Royal Western India Turf club on Thursday termed the death of a young jockey as accidental, but police have started making inquiries before closing the case.

The deceased, 21-year-old Sawai Singh Bhati, died after a fall from his horse while training on Wednesday. The doctors, in the autospy, said that Bhati's skull was crushed and it bore marks of a horse's hoof.

However, there is no witness to the accident. Sources at the race course said that Bhati had gone past the bend at a leisurely pace, Yvresse, but after some time the horse returned without a rider. Bhati was found unconcious on the tracks and was pronounced dead on admission to the hospital.

This a second instance of jockey's dying on the Mahalaxmi race course. In 1979, 20-year-old Carl Umrigar had died when he fell from the horse.
