Chinese Taipei humiliate Singapore to enter semis

Chinese Taipei humiliated Singapore 18-0 to enter the semi-finals from Group B in the AFC Under-19 women's football championship at the Nehru stadium in Margao, Goa, on Wednesday.

Also making it to the last four stage were Japan, North Korea and China.

Chinese Taipei, who needed victory by a huge margin to top the group and enter semi-finals, trounced lowly-placed Singapore by the biggest winning margin in the tournament. They led 11-0 at the lemon break.

For Chinese Taipei, Li Chen Tsai and Sho O Tseng scored four goals each while Yu Hsing Cheng performed a hat-trick and Hu Chih Chang came up with a brace.

Similarly, Wen Yu, Mei Fen Lan, Shin Jun Wu, Yu Chen Huang and substitute Yen Ling Lu also contributed to the team's tally with a goal each.

In the earlier match of the same group, China beat Hong Kong 17-0 to finish second on goal difference as both teams had seven points each.

With the top teams of each group qualifying for the semi-finals along with the best second team from the three groups, Japan, Chinese Taipei and North Korea qualified as top teams while China qualified for the semi-finals as they finished as the best second-placed team in the league.

Tomorrow is a rest day. On April 26, Japan will play China in the first semi-final while Chinese Taipei will meet North Korea in the other semi-final.
