Anjali Vedpathak bags silver

India's top woman shooter Anjali Vedpathak clinched a silver medal in the Air Rifle event at the ISSF World Cup shooting championships in Sydney on Friday.

Vedpathak's remarkable effort of 397/400 in the semi-finals and 103.1 in the final was, however, overshadowed by Korean shooter Jeon Acna, who created a new world record with a perfect score of 400 out of 400 to take the gold.

The bronze was won by Kurkova of Czech Republic (397+101.6), according to a National Rifle Association of India statement.

Among the other Indians in the fray, Pournima Gawhane finished eighth (394+101.4) while Suma Sirur (393), Meena (392) and Rajkumari (385) failed to impress.

In the men's trap event, Mansher Singh shot 72/75, Manavjit Singh 70 and Anwer Sultan 68. The remaining 50 birds in the event are to be shot on Saturday.
