Chandra, Advani maintain impressive run

Title aspirants Manan Chandra and Pankaj Advani registered facile victories to cruise into the quarter-finals of the fourth Asian under-21 snooker championship in Kolkata on Wednesday.

While Chandra relied on three big breaks to spank Mohammad Zakaria of Brunei 4-0 in a one-sided pre-quarter final, Advani demolished Tommy Boon Chin Ang of Singapore by similar 4-0 scoreline to keep himself in the reckoning for the coveted title.

Advani brought off a stunning break of 120 in the second frame to take control but could not manage big breaks in the subsequent frames.

Displaying his superiority right through, Advani carved out an easy 78-40, 136-0, 65-25, 58-20 victory. He will now take on strong contender and third seeded Pramual Janthat of Thailand in the quarter-finals tomorrow.

Top seed Manan Chandra, who has not conceded a frame in the championship so far, kept his reputation intact and was never under any pressure against Zakaria, winning 83-20, 97-0, 91-0, 81-13 to romp into the last eight stage.

Chandra managed breaks of 86 (2nd frame), 91 (3rd) and 54 (4th). The top seed Indian will now clash with Bahrain's Habib Sabah Humood in the quarter-finals.
