Easy for seeded players

Most of the seeded players had another day without hiccups in the second round of the 5,000-dollar ITF Futures women's tennis tournament at the Shivaji Park Gymkhana in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Third-seeded Sai Jayalakshmi, fourth-seeded Sonal Phadke, sixth seed Archana Venkatraman and eighth-seed Samrita Sekhar all had an easy entry into the third round but fifth-seeded Sheetal Goutham and seventh-seeded Lisa Pereira had a tough time.

Sheetal had to battle for nearly two hours against Amrita Bhambri before winning 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 while Lisa had to overcome a first set loss to beat a tenacious Geeta Manohar 6-7, 6-3, 6-2.

Eighth-seeded Sekhar easily disposed off the lone foreign participant in Evalina Rusdianto of Indonesia 6-3, 6-0.

Other second round results:

Sai Jayalakshmi bt Vandana Murali 6-2, 6-1; Krushmi Chedda bt Kanisha Mehta 6-2, 6-1; Archana Venkatraman bt Medini Sharma 6-3, 6-0; Sonal Phadke bt Rati Kumar 6-1, 6-4.
