Sania advances in Mitsubishi Lancer tournament

India's top junior tennis player, Sania Mirza fought hard to beat Alexander McGoodwin in the 13th Mitsubishi Lancer tennis tournament in Manila on Tuesday.

The American, ranked 94 in singles and 28 in doubles, was up 6-5 in the first set, but Sania levelled the score 6-6, and went on to win the tie-break 7-1.

After a tiring first set, the Indian slowed down and in no time lost the second set 2-6. However, she made a strong recovery in the third to shock her fancied opponent.

She was down 3-4, but kept her cool and outsmarted the American with some good ground strokes to win the decider at 6-4.
