Seles latest withdrawal from Toyota Princess Cup

Monica Seles has become the latest player to pull out of this week's Toyota Princess Cup in Tokyo following last week's terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, tournament organisers said on Tuesday.

The former world number one, fresh off winning the Brazil Open at the weekend, was scheduled to arrive in Tokyo from London on Tuesday, but told the tour of her decision not to travel late on Monday.

Monica Seles America's Serena Williams, the defending champion, world number two Jennifer Capriati and Amy Frazier pulled out of the $565,000 event on Saturday.

French Open runner-up Kim Clijsters of Belgium is the top seed in a depleted field which also includes Yugoslavia's Jelena Dokic, who was beaten by Seles in Saturday's final in Rio de Janeiro.

Tournament sponsors will now be hoping that former world number one Martina Navratilova, now 44, has an extended run in the doubles with Spanish partner Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario.
