FIFA reviews fixtures worldwide

FIFA, soccer's governing body, is reviewing whether international matches worldwide should go ahead as planned following the terror attacks on the U.S., a spokesman said on Wednesday.

"Obviously it's being reviewed at the top level," the FIFA spokesman said. FIFA President Sepp Blatter will lead the review and a statement is due in the early afternoon in Europe.

On Thursday Oman are due to play the United Arab Emirates in a World Cup qualifier and Iran play Bahrain.

There are further Asian group qualifiers involving China, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia in the following days.

The world under-17 championships start in Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday and the United States are still involved in World Cup qualifiers from the CONCACAF federation.

Thousands are feared dead in New York and Washington after three hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon on Tuesday.
