Gold haul by Vikas Pandey

Vikas Pandey capped his superb show in gymnastics, winning all the eight gold medals on offer in the men's section, on the last day of the gymnastics competition, to take his haul to 11 and put Uttar Pradesh on top at the 31st National Games.

Pandey, who had earlier won three gold, first helped UP win the team gold on Sunday and then walked away with individual golds in the all-round finals, floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, pommelled bars and horizontal bars.

In the women's event, Bengal's Rakhi Debnath won three gold as she guided her team to victory in the team event and then added two more from individual events of vault and uneven bars.

Punjab's Rajani also made an impact, winning individual golds in the rope and hoop.

Hosts Punjab and West Bengal led the medals table in the women's category, bagging four gold each while Jammu and Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh claimed two and one gold respectively.
