Fazaluddin goes down

Indian Davis Cupper Syed Fazaluddin crashed out of the $10,000 Bangkok University Open ITF men's futures tennis tournament in Muang Thong Thani, Thailand on Wednesday.

The Indian, unseeded at the event, lost his second round match to Raven Klaasen of South Africa 3-6, 5-7.

Earlier, Fazaluddin had upset third-seeded Rik de Voest of South Africa 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 in his first round match.

Wildcard entrant Indian doubles specialist, Mahesh Bhupathi withdrew from the event and was replaced by the lucky loser Shivang Mishra.

Shivang defeated Supanya Apaiphan of Thailand 7-6 (2), 6-2 in his first round match and will now face fifth seeded Yeu-Tzuoo Wang of Taiwan in the second. Wang defeated South African Ciaran Moore 6-2, 6-4 to move ahead.

Qualifier Rohan Bopanna defated Coenie van Wyk of South Africa 6-2, 3-0 (retd.) in his first round match. He now will face eigth seeded Lior Dahan of Israel next.

Another Indian, Mustafa Ghouse got into main draw as lucky loser, but he went down to eigth seeded Lior Dahan of Israel 3-6, 1-6 in the first round.

Tournament top seed Aisam Qureshi from Pakistan edged past Taiwan's Lu Yen-Hsun 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 in his first round match.

In the other second round matches, second seed Dmitri Tomashevich from Uzbekistan crashed out of the event, when he was beaten 3-6, 4-6 by Peter Handoyo from Indonesia.

Fourth seed Benjamin Cassaigne from France had a more comfortable match, defeating South Korea's Lee Seung-Hun 6-3, 6-4.

Germany's Frank Moser also progressed when his Indonesian opponent Widhiyanto retired in the second set with the German one set up.

In the doubles, third seed Syed Fazaluddin and Dmitryi Tomashevic of Uzbekistan defeated Thai wildcards Suparat Chukwan and Ekkarin Pisuth-Arnonth 6-3, 6-3 to move into the second round, while Rohan Bopanna and Mustafa Ghouse edged out the fourth seeds Lior Dahan of Israel and Conie van Wyk of South Africa 7-6(7), 7-6(5) in their first round match.

In the quarter-final matches, Fazaluddin and Tomashevi will take on Thai twin brothers Sanchai and Sonchat Ratiwatana, while Bopanna and Ghouse will face Peter Handoyo of Indonesia and Raven Klaasen of South Africa.
