Bagan retain Governor's Gold Cup

Defending champions Mohun Bagan retained the Governor's Gold Cup after outclassing Bangladesh's Arambagh Krira Chakra 4-0 in the title clash of the 23rd edition of the football tournament on Saturday.

The Calcutta giants, who dominated the proceedings right from the beginning, scored two goals in each session, with Nigerian Seriki Abdullateef getting a brace.

Jose Barreto and R P Singh netted a goal each.

Seriki headed home the first goal in 12th minute off a Renedy Singh cross. Two minutes before the recess a right footer from Barreto, off a Dulal Biswas pass, from the top of the penalty box beat Bangla custodian Biplab Bhattacharya.

Bagan increased the tally in 61st minute when Seriki again outwitted the Bangla defence with his speed after picking up a midfield cross and slotted home the ball.

R P Singh completed the tally in the 75th minute with a grounder that baffled a diving Bangla custodian.

Barreto finished as the highest scorer of the tournament.
