Sunil Kumar bows out

Shailesh Soni

Junior India tennis star Sunil Kumar Sipaeya, who created a flutter at the 37th Belgian International Junior championships 2001 -- a grade 1 event being played at the Astrid Bowl -- by upseting the eighth seed and world No 22 Oscar Posada of Venezuela 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 in his second round match on Tuesday, was unable to repeat the performance in the pre-quarter-finals on Wednesday, and went down tamely to Lamine Ouahab of Algeria, 6-1, 6-1.

Ouahab will now face Iordan Kanev of Bulgaria in the quarter-finals. Kanev advanced into the quarter-finals when the top seed Alejandro Falla of Colombia retired with gastroenteritis at 4-5 in the first set.

Rajeev Ram of the United States also lost his pre-quarter-final match, bowing to second seed Bruno Echagaray of Mexico 6-1, 6-3.
