HC orders issue of notice to BAI

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday ordered issue of emergent notices to the Badminton Association of India on a petition filed by former junior national badminton champion Divya Ramesh challenging the BAI's decision to exclude her from the Indian team for the Sudirman Cup and World championships being held in Seville, Spain.

Divya, in her petition, submitted that she was not selected and questioned the "inadequate" representation in the team for the women's singles.

Justice R Gururajan, after hearing Divya's counsel, ordered issue of emergent notices to the BAI office-bearers and two players -- Manjusha Kanwar and B R Meenakshi -- who are in the team.

The judge adjourned further hearing of the petition to June 12.

The World championship ends on June 10.
