Hingis moves to third on all-time money list

Martina Hingis became the third-highest money-winner of all time in women's tennis on Friday.

Her quarter-final win over Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario in the Masters Series Rome event earned her $46,000 and pushed her over the $16-million mark.

Hingis, 20, has now earned $16,006,776 in prize money and trails only Martina Navratilova ($20,405,174) and Steffi Graf ($21,895,277) in career winnings.

Sanchez-Vicario is in fourth place on $15,967,340.

"It's amazing," said Hingis. "Arantxa has been 14 years on the tour and I've only half the years and have the same amount. You can see how the business has grown."

Hingis, a five-times Grand Slam winner and the youngest player to break $16 million, also holds the record for becoming the youngest player to earn $1 million in prize money -- in 1996 at the age of 16 years, one month, 10 days.
