Mauresmo jumps three places in world rankings

Amelie Mauresmo jumped three places in the WTA Tour rankings on Monday following her victory over Australian Open champion Jennifer Capriati in the German Open final.

Mauresmo now equals her highest world ranking of sixth.

The athletic Frenchwoman now has a 27-2 record for the year, making her the most prolific of all top players in the women's game in 2001.

Amelie Mauresmo The 21-year-old, who made her breakthrough on the Berlin clay three years ago by reaching the final after entering the event as a qualifier, showed great composure to win her first encounter with Capriati.

Last year's German Open champion Conchita Martinez – who beat Mauresmo in that final three years ago -- slipped from seventh to 14th after failing to defend her title.

Switzerland's Martin Hingis still leads the rankings with 5,725 points. She is pursued by four Americans, Venus Williams, Lindsay Davenport, Capriati and Monica Seles.
