Chima allegedly assaults lensman

Nigerian footballer Chima Okerie, serving a ban for beating up a referee last year, has hit the headlines for the wrong reasons again. This time for allegedly assaulting a photojournalist of leading Bengali daily Pratidin.

As per a First Information Report lodged by the photojournalist at the Bowbazar police station, Calcutta, Okerie beat up the lensman in an office in the central part of the city where he had reportedly gone to negotiate with Tollygunge Agragami officials to don the club's colours next season.

Okerie also broke the lensman's camera by throwing it on to the floor before leaving the place in a huff, the FIR said.

Okerie, regarded as one of the most lethal strikers on the Calcutta maidan, was suspended by the Indian Football Association for manhandling referee Bikash Mukherjee at the Salt Lake stadium last year.
