Dhanraj hits out at media bias

Indian hockey ace Dhanraj Pillay on Friday ridiculed the media for its obsession with cricket and accused it of failing to highlight India's victory over Pakistan in the final of the Prime Minister's Gold Cup hockey tournament, in Dhaka.

"I took the first flight out of Dhaka and on reaching the Kolkata airport the next morning, I bought all the newspapers from the stands. But except one paper, the report about India's win got relegated to obscurity," Pillay told reporters in Delhi, after being felicitated by the Jawaharlal Nehru Hockey Trust for his contribution to Indian hockey.

"For me, defeating Pakistan was a great honour, but it was sad that the media failed to take note of it," Pillay said.

He added: "True, (V V S) Laxman and (Rahul) Dravid played well for the country (in the second Test against Australia), but we too did acheive something. Defeating Pakistan was no mean achievement."
