Indian grapplers shine

Indian grapplers won a silver and bronze medal each in the 'Cup of Independence of Uzbekistan', at Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Jagdish Kaliraman won the silver medal in the super heavyweight category (130 kg) while the bronze was captured by Ramesh Kumar, in 69 kg class, a Wrestling Federation of India statement said on Tuesday.

The Indian grapplers were unlucky not to win a couple more medals as Shokinder Tomar and Rakesh Patel finished fourth in the 63 kg and 97 kg classes respectively.

Wrestlers from 15 countries participated in the event, held from March 2 to 4.

Wrestling Federation of India president G S Mander congratulated the team and coaches on their performance and expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the wrestlers in the run up to the 2002 Asian Games.
