Paes-Bhupathi crash out

India's top doubles pair of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi bowed out of the Dubai tennis championships after being defeated by top seeds Yevgeny Kafelnikov of Russia and Max Mirnyi of Belarus on Thursday night.

The Indians lost 6-4, 3-6, 5-7 in a quarter-final match.

The victory came as some consolation for Kafelnikov, who was beaten by Thomas Johansson in the singles event on Wednesday.

The Indian pair had defeated the combination of Alex Corretja of Spain and Nicolas Kiefer of Germany 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (11/9) in the first round on Wedesday night on way to the quarter-finals.
