'Positive test at French Open'

A tennis player is believed to have tested positive for drugs at the French Open, French Sports Minister Marie-George Buffet said on Monday.

"There were more than 140 spot tests during the Roland Garros tournament and we don't have all the results yet but I think there was one positive result," Buffet told France Inter radio.

A ministry spokeswoman said tests are being carried out on the player's B sample. She would not identify the player.

French tennis federation president Christian Bimes said he will take the sanctions required if the B sample is positive.

"I heard there was a doping case during the fortnight," Bimes said. "We will look at this case very carefully. But if the test is positive we will take sanctions."

Bimes said doping tests are random in the first week of the tournament but all players are tested during the second week.

The two-week Grand Slam tournament ended on Sunday.
