India go down to New Zealand

Niniwa Roberts scored two goals on her international debut as New Zealand beat India 3-1 in the first match of a four-Test women's hockey series in Whagaeri, New Zealand, on Monday.

New Zealand led 2-0 at half-time with goals from Roberts and Anna Lawrence, who was making her 150th Test appearance.

Roberts scored again early in the second half while India scored a consolation goal minutes before full-time.

The teams meet again in Auckland on Wednesday and Saturday, and in Hamilton on Sunday.
