Fans boo as Brazil draw

Brazil drew with an unimpressive Canadian side on Saturday to the boos of a crowd which included many Brazilians living in Japan.

In another match, Forward Takayuki Suzuki scored in each half as Japan defeated Cameroon 2-0 to move top of Group B and secure a place in the semifinals.

Japan's second straight victory put the tournament co-hosts clear of Brazil. Japan have six points from two games with Brazil on four points from two matches ahead of Canada and Cameroon.

Brazil, clearly superior in both technique and physical ability, dominated the game played almost completely inside Canadian territory.

Brazil's Carlos Miguel (L) and Sonny Anderson (R) battle with Canada's Nick Dasovic. But the four-times World champions failed to capitalise on some decisive opportunities, including a 26th-minute shot by defender Leo, denied by a leaping save from goalkeeper Craig Forrest.

About the only chance the Canadian side had before halftime was after 33 minutes when Paul Stalteri headed a cross ball from defender Kevin McKenna but the shot passed way over the bar.

Brazil continued in control after the restart, producing numerous opportunities, but the frustration of the Brazilian fans only increased as most of the shots were off the target.

As the game neared its end, both sides play became sloppy with many Brazilian players abandoning their tight passing game and taking long shots at goal.
