Harikrisha's loss pushes him
down to fifth position

Double GM norm-holder Pendyala Harikrishna of India lost to Grandmaster Friso Nijboer of the Netherlands in the 10th and penultimate round of the Corus Grandmasters group 'B' chess tournament in Wijk Ann Zee (Netherlands).

The loss pushed Harikrishna down to fifth position.

Playing black, Harikrishna employed the French defence and desperately tried to catch up with tournament leader GM Mikhail Gurevich of Belgium.

Composed play by Nijboer in the middle game gave him substantial spatial advantage and Harikrishna's pieces failed to give him the desired counter-play.

The game was over in 33 moves.

Results of round 10:
T Radjabov 6.5 drew T Luther 6.5; Friso Nijboer 6.5 beat P Harikrishna 6; V Karel 5.5 drew B Gulko 5; De Vreugt 4.5 lost to Nico Vink 2.5; B Manuel 4.5 lost to M Gurevich 7.5;Yge Visser 3.5 drew E Hoeksema 1.5.
