Paes-Raymond in second round

Leander Paes and Lisa Raymond entered the second round of the mixed doubles at the Australian Open tennis championships, with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over the Australian pair of Todd Perry and Bryanne Stewart on Saturday.

The India-US pair, which won the 1999 Wimbledon title, combined well to win in a little over an hour.

Paes-Raymond got 81 per cent of their first serves in, which made a big difference in the outcome of the match. They took the first set in 39 minutes, with one break of serve, and the second in exactly 30 minutes.

In the next round they meet the winners on the match between Daniel Orsanic of Argentina/Virginia Ruano-Pascual of Spain and third seeds Ellis Ferreira of South Africa/Corina Morariu of the United States.

On Friday, Paes's doubles partner Mahesh Bhupathi and Ai Sugiyama advanced into the second round. They are scheduled to play Peter Tramacchi /Rachel McQuillan.
