Churchill down ITI

Zee Churchill Brothers scored once in each half to get the better of Indian Telephone Industries 2-1 in a National Football League match at the Nehru stadium, in Margao, Goa, on Wednesday.

The Goa champions, who started well but lost their midfield possession later in the first half, scored through strikers Francis Silveira (3rd minute) and Igor Shkvirin (55th).

ITI, who regrouped in the latter part of the first half, got their goal in the 33rd minute through a penalty by captain K V Dhenesh as the teams went into the breather level 1-1.

The Bangalore outfit could have at least finished with a draw but their strikers Kenneth Ugwo, George Ekeh and Yusuf Ahmed failed to get the better of Churchill goalkeeper Edward Ansah, who brought off some good saves.

With the fourth win, Zee Churchill took their tally to 14 points, the same as Vasco, from 10 matches but are placed fifth due to better goal difference.

ITI remained on ninth place with seven points from as many matches.
