Sunday show again

Strong contenders F C Kochin capitalised on a defensive lapse to pip Calcutta challengers Tollygunge Aggragami by a solitary goal in the fifth National Football League, at the Rabindra Sarovar stadium, in Calcutta, on Monday.

The versatile Sunday Seah scored the all-important goal midway through the second session to shatter the home team's aspirations of collecting full points in a rather lacklustre encounter.

Seah, who performed the role of goalkeeper in the first half, put on the striker's jersey after the breather to guide his team to victory by slamming in the all-important goal in the 65th minute.

The goalkeeper-striker, who is now the highest scorer in the league so far -- with five goals, slotted home from close following a gentle pass by the striker I M Vijayan to save the day for the visitors.

The hard-working Seah took full advantage of a misunderstanding between defenders Reazul Mustafa and Debashish Pal Choudhury, who allowed him to take the shot inside the box.

Last week too, Sunday switched from goalkeeper to striker and scored twice as FC Kochin beat SBT.

The victory helped the Kochin outfit to maintain their second position on the points table, with 21 points from nine outings. They are now just one point behind leaders East Bengal, who have 22 points from nine matches.

Tollygunge, who desperately needed a victory to consolidate their position, have eight points from nine outings.
